Padmavati film review

Padmavat received mixed opinions from different corners of India, and here are some of the reviews from several news websites:

NDTV about the Padmavat movie{1/5}

"Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Boring Film Doesn't Do Justice to Deepika Padukone."

"The word 'Nayaab'- meaning 'invaluable'- is used several times over in the film, for different objects: a priceless gem, a priceless ostrich, a priceless Princess. As a result, nothing seems to hold value. This is an epic bore."

"The problem lies not in Padmaavat being a costume drama, but in fact that there is too much costume, too little drama."

NDTV also commented that Padmaavat isn't a better-looking film, and Cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee doesn't get to show off his work. "There is no truly memorable imagery, except for the final sequence."

NDTV gave it a 1/5 rating

News18 {3.5/5}

"Ranveer Singh's Delicious Performance is its Biggest Strength."

"Expectedly Director Sanjay Leela delivers a film that is richly cinematic, but whose story-as it turns out- has a little of the emotional complexity."

"The romance between Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor) and Padmavati (Deepika Padukone), whom he takes as his bride shortly after he falls prey to her beauty and her arrow, is vanilla at best."

"Deepika Padukone gets especially good in the film’s second half when her character slides into the driver’s seat, taking charge and showing the way."

The Indian Express{2.5/5}

"There’s a kind of beauty in the way Bhansali creates his frames, even your eye begins to be overwhelmed by it!"

"If there’s one thing that keeps us from brooding too much through the film, it is Ranveer Singh. Not once does he try to make us like him, and that makes us like him even more."

FirstPost{1/5}

"Bhansali couches regressive, opportunistic messaging in exhausting visual splendor"

"Padmaavat is an irritating ode to Rajput bravery which, if you read history books, is as much a myth as Padmavati a.k.a. Padmini herself."

"Everything in Padmaavat looks pretty, but the film has little else to offer beyond that, not even the striking performances that marked out Bhansali’s last directorial venture, Bajirao Mastani, in 2015."
